Olson professes a love for Jesus Christ. The couple tried to maintain a normal family structure by attended a fundamentalist church frequently. However, once word got out that Olson was caught sodomizing a young boy in a sauna, they changed to another branch.

Signs of Trouble in Their Adult Relationships.

 

Olson became violent after learning of Joan's pregnancy; drunk more frequently;began to beat her. (Kerr)

 

Olson had already killed three children, one five days after the birth of his son. Kerr notes that like his “father before him, Olson also caused a ruckus just before his son’s birth, getting into a shouting match at the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster." The night before the wedding, Olson babysat several children while his fiancee went out to celebrate with her girlfriends. It is alleged that he sent older children to the store to buy bubble gum providing him an opportunity to sexually assaulted a 5-year-old girl. The child's mother made a complaint to the police. Olson was asked to go to the Coquitlam RCMP detachment to answer to the allegations. At the station, he denied the incident. The child was too young to testify and the police did not have enough evidence to charge him. (Kerr)
